Jasper County Missouri Tombstones Vol 08 (1982)

Research compiled and published by Colleen G. Webb Belk of Duenweg, Missouri.

This volume 8 is a list of Jasper County, Missouri cemetery tombstones and historical miscellany. Related data added by the compiler, from various sources: as courthouses records, family records, county history books and census records, etc. The references used are listed within the document.

Colleen Belk states “The value of this presentation and PRESERVATION is in the reason of the formation of Joplin..the mining boom (lead & zinc), which developed in the early 1870s..creating later the city of Joplin.

This boom brought thousands to the area…within seven years after the Civil War.  There is an important historical element in THAT fact..considering that the multitude that came here, were in many cases a result of the unrest in their lives following THE war.

Many names found here represent some who “passed this way but once”… leaving loved ones interred, with the names on the stones giving clues to the present day family seekers.  Here, also, those who remained to live out their lives.”

Part 1 of the Fairview Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri is in volume 8, the remainder will be in the next volume.
